What is freight forwarding?

Movements of cargo through an agent from ex-works or quayside to either port of destination or final destination.

What can I ship with Seaway Logistics?

Seaway Logistics will handle all types of general cargo reels, steel, mobiles, containers, trucks, project cargoes and heavy lifts to Klaipeda, Riga and Poland. We handle 20’ and 40’ containers to and from St. Petersburg Russia.

Can you go to other ports other than the ones mentioned in your website?

We can offer and arrange specific charter vessel for full cargoes to any Baltic port.

Does everything have to come through Hull or can you arrange forwarding from other places?

Primarily Hull but we are able to arrange shipment via other Humber ports.

Can I charter a ship for my freight?

Charters can be arranged for clients with full cargoes. We can also advise specifics with the customer and arrange suitable vessels accordingly.

How are freight rates calculated?

Generally freight is calculated on either the weight or the cubic measurement, whichever is the greater.

Can you ship my products from Europe back to the UK?

The only port we ship products from back to the UK is St Petersburg.

What is a Ships Agent?

A shipping agent is appointed by a vessel owner to look after the formalities at the port of arrival/sailing. Their responsibility is to ensure safe berthing and entry to and from a port and safe handling of cargo in/out of vessel and attend to the needs of the Master and Crew.

Are the ships yours?

Although Seaway own no vessels we have agreements with both time charter owners and direct owners trading continuously to the Baltic.

What is the difference between container and break/bulk?

Containerisation: Containerised cargo is shipped in containers and sent via Cellular containers vessels. Break Bulk is cargo that would not normally fit into a container e.g. out of gauge.

What is the heaviest freight you can load onto the ships?

At the Rix terminal we have lifting capacity up to 16 tons. At the port of Hull, we can arrange lifts up to 100 tons.

If I need documentation arranged to get my cargo accepted at a port, can you do this for me?

Seaway will arrange export and import documentation where required, although customs formalities are only required for non EEC countries. In addition we will issue all necessary Bills of Lading for shipments via our line representations.

What size containers do you ship?

To St Petersburg – 20’ and 40’ containers.

How long does it take to deliver freight once it leaves Hull?
  • Hull to Klaipeda – 4 Days direct sailing from Hull
  • Hull to Riga – 4 Days direct sailing from Hull
  • Hull to Polish Ports 3.5 days, Direct sailing from Hull 
  • Hull to St Petersburg 10 days – transhipment via Rotterdam
